Mono

Mononucleosis is a condition caused the Ebstein-Barr Virus (EBV). The main symptoms are extreme fatigue and sore throat, but can also cause fevers and enlarged liver and/or spleen. While the fever and sore throat typically resolve after a week or so, the fatigue can last 4-6 weeks. This illness is transmitted through saliva, which is where the nickname “The Kissing Disease” comes from, but also can be transmitted through sharing water bottles, forks, or lip balm. If you are worried about mono, you should not play any contact sport until being cleared by a provider.
